Sympathy cards are never easy to design . . . but, a very dear friend of mine recently suffered a loss, and I wanted to send comforting thoughts to her . . . her love of gardening and nature influenced the images and papers I decided to work with.

I’m not very good with patterned paper, and am trying to get better . . . it prolly has to do with me just hating the idea of covering up beautiful paper–especially paper as lovely as this.  I love the sweet little blossoms and vines and, oh, my!  the colors . . .

The layout is pretty simplistic–in this case, I had to be very careful or the overall design became so intricate that the focal image got "swalloped up", for lack of a better term . . . using pale tones of chalk,  after stamping the sentiment, seemed to enhance that area,  rather than detract from it, so I’m glad I experimented with it.  I stamped the little blossoms using 2nd generation ink (ink stamp, stamp off once onto scratch paper, and then stamp onto the project with the remaining ink still left on the image), so they wouldn’t be quite so intense.  The centers seemed to beg for a little something, hence the tiny clear crystal stickers.

I suppose this sympathy card is kinda’ on the "unusual" side, but, I hope it lets her know I am carrying her in my heart through this time.

  9. Julie – Thanks for sharing this gorgeous card. I have the “whole kit and kaboodle” of the Blush Collection papers – I couldn’t resist. They are so gorgeous. I know what you mean about using them – sometimes it’s hard to cut them as well as cover them up!
