Grams

I just got back from a family reunion out of state–something we look forward to attending every other year.  It’s good to re-connect with family and catch up on what everybody’s up to!  Due to the timing, we also celebrated Gram’s 90th birthday!

She doesn’t really care too much for lots of fuss, but, we fussed anyway. *wink*  She’s a spunky thing–lived through the depression, raised two boys with my Gramps, a construction worker, and put herself through school to become an LPN, AFTER her kids were raised and having their own families.  Stubborn, opinionated, and sometimes hard to get along with, she’d give the shirt off her back to any one of us in need, without any hesitation.

One of her favorite things to do, was to take each of us grandkids alone, to stay with her, and enjoy some one-on-one time.  I have memories of her letting me play nurse, and listen to her heart with her stethoscope, and wrap up an arm or a leg with gobs of ace bandages, curing her of one malady or another, for hours . . .

Being feisty as she is, and knowing she’d take it with humor, this was the card I made for her:

90bday

You can’t really see it in the pic, but, I used an A Muse clear domed circle sticker over the top–it fit PERFECTLY over the grid section on the die cut  K & Co. label I used to showcase the "90"!  I would have used my Crafty Secrets numbers, but, they were too large to fit proper in the circle; the style of the Martha numbers still pulled off the effect I was after, keeping it cohesive.

She cracked a grin and a little chuckle when she read it, so my mission was accomplished.

I hope I have half her spunk, when 90 I become . . .

  1. How totally sweet!! :)

  2. What an amazingly beautiful photo! One of my all-time favorite photos is a b&w of my grandmother taken about a year before she passed on. Something about b&w and sepia tone photos on older people really move me.
Congrats to your gramma on a long and colorful life.

  3. I have a feeling you’ll be spunky AND THEN SOME! Sounds like she is an amazing woman.
