Every month, on the 20th, a challenge is issued to the Dirty Dozen Current & Alumni

A single layer design, no patterned papers or the color pink allowed, and . . . you must use some form of masking. That was the challenge Jami issued for September, 2008.

I’m a sucker for a no-layer card, so I told myself I had to make time, no matter what, to meet this one!  *chortle*

I can’t seem to keep my paws off the coming A Muse Tree sets, so, I thought I’d use one of them  for this challenge as yet another sneak peek.

I also told myself this was the perfect opportunity to employ some of those fun design tricks Krystie shared during her Guest Designer stint with us, so I mortise masked (a.k.a. reverse masking) the embossed frame–I wasn’t quite as soft and even in my sponging–I think I should have used a quarter rounded sponge, instead of my sponge daubers.  Next time, I’ll nail it!

It’s hard to see in the pic, but, I cut two slits, along the embossed edge of the Nestabilities Frame, so I could slip the ribbon through.  That’s our gaaaaaw-jus new color of Sheer Ribbon–I just LOVE LOVE the color!

True confessions?  I had originally stamped the sentiment directly on the card.  But, guess what?  Clear stamps don’t always guarantee a "perfectly straight" sentiment , if your EYES are old and need new spectacles! (insert frowny face).

So, I had to stamp it separately onto another piece, and mount it over the top, because after I’d gotten that far, I wasn’t about to start all over again.

Good ’nuff!

  1. This is clean and crisp and I love it! Even your “mistake” was perfect. When ya got it- ya got it! And YOU got it! Good work.

  2. Well…I think your reverse masking looks amazing, and I love those new images & pretty ribbon!! (Most of the time I use a stamp positioner even with my clear stamps. I’m sure people would think I’m strange…lol!)

  3. What a beautiful card. With clear stamps, try dropping them onto the block; it often makes them straighter than carefully placing them!

    Thanks for the great blog.

  4. This is just gorgeous!!! Can’t wait for the release tomorrow!!!

  5. Beautiful card, Julie — fabulous colors!!! That red bird just POPS!!! Great job!!!

  6. Love this!! So pretty and I love the sentiment!

  7. Super Stinkin’ Cute Julie!!! Love the new sheer ribbon…
