Faux Embossed Congrats

mono_congrats_WEB_2

My sister just got a nursing position and we’re all so excited for her! Wanted to send some happy mail her way to celebrate her accomplishment!

This design was inspired by some stunning business cards I had seen on Pinterest–they were actually embossed. My rendition is “faux” embossed.

(only have video of the card on the left; don’t ask… Mama said there’d be days…)

Ended up with TWO cards out of the process, because I was able to use the positive and the negative with just a wee bit o’ pre-planning (OK, this was a 2nd attempt. BUT, it was a wicked smaaaht 2nd attempt! And you were spared the 1st attempt, a.k.a. #fail)  *fist pump* *arms wrapped ’round self, deep chortling*

The other card, on the right, is for my Son-In-Law, who just officially “crested” with the Blue Angels! You probably can’t tell from the pic but the two gold enamel dots are glittery!  And, yes, I know the wood veneer is not the same type of jet as the ones the Blue Angels fly. It’s the thought (along with being handmade) that counts, and not the accuracy of a small wood embellishment, right?! *hair flip* ;)

Boy, our family has a lot to be proud of!

Happy weekend!

Note: I’ve referenced some substitute products below that would work as well as some of the products I used but were not currently in stock at the writing of this post, such as the MFT World Traveler Die Set (in lieu of a wood veneer) and Smooth Bristol (in lieu of Bazzill Butter Mints card stock)

Rainbow & Ombré Stripes

You don’t wanna know how long it took me to figure out exactly HOW I wanted to achieve this striped effect; the end result is simple enough, but yes, there were some epic fails prior to getting to this point…

In the end, I could not sit on my hands… wanted the stars to stand out a wee bit more… Still debating whether or not it was a good move…

Thankfully, the recipient will never know the internal artistic struggle I endured; they will be occupied with cake (gotta love Jim Gaffigan!!!). *cheeky grin*

Sorry about the background noise on the audio; the Sound of Freedom was running exercises. I’m glad they practice.

Have a fab weekend!

Hero Arts & Basic Grey Blog Hop: Spice Market + a GIVEAWAY

Hero+BG_BlogHop

Hello and welcome to the Hero Arts & Basic Grey Blog Hop! We’re sharing some Spice Market goodness with you! Gotta love the eye candy, eh?!

I have 3 card designs that I hope inspire:

bg_spicemarket_hop_1

The Spice Market collection features a great mix of colors and patterns…

I had to watercolor the peonies in the Lovely stamp set–borrowed the greeting from the Best Time Ever set and stamped it onto some vellum and stapled it on with the Tiny Attacher.

This one features mostly the papers and stickers from the 12 x 12 Spice Market Collection Pack but also an acetate die cut (amazing)–. I stamped the delicate lace border from the  Best Time Ever set along one edge of the top panel with Delicata Golden Glitz for a little bit of shimmer. It’s hard to see in the pic–a good thing, actually–but I 3D mounted the acetate die cut with these Kool Tak Clear Foam Adhesive Squares.

I thought the Large Petal Background stamp would look subtly sophisticated embossed with white on some of the patterned paper from the 12 x 12 Collection, and then I layered one of the pre-printed die cuts and white embossed a greeting onto some scrap black card stock.  It may look like I sewed the floral die cut but I cheated and just used a fine tip black marker. :)

Before you hop away, be sure to leave a comment here! Why? Well, because Hero Arts and BasicGrey will be giving away two complete Spice Market collections — including paper, embellishments, clear and cling stamps. The two winners will be randomly selected from all comments received on the participating designers’ blogs. Comments must be received by 11:59pm PST on Sunday, March 2. The more comments you leave along the hop, the better your odds of winning!

SEE???
