Grow go detail-je

This fantastic sentiment from Plant Ladies Say works awesome for camouflaged die cutting (Click HERE for a video tutorial on this technique)–I have more ideas and variations for combining both sets with this technique–I wish there were more hours in the day for me to have tried them all!

In real life, it’s such a cool effect, but it’s hard to see when you shoot a project straight on, so I took an angled shot.

Gosh, I just adore a sentiment with presence!!! Don’t you?! :)

I hope the ideas I’ve shared this week have sparked you in some way! If you share your projects on Instagram, please hashtag it with #essentialsbyellen I get such a kick out of seeing how YOU use the stamps and dies!

Thank you so much for popping over here all week–so appreciated!

Rustic Botanical Hello

Rustic botanical hello-je

feat. Rustic Botanicals, Rustic Botanicals DiesBrushstroke Hello Die; Modern Graphics Paper Pack; Altenew Cool Summer Nights Ink Cubes; NUVO Crystal Drops – Ebony Black

This week I’m posting a different design every day, featuring stamps and dies from the August 2017 Essentials by Ellen Release

I layered a piece of tiny confetti patterned paper from the Modern Graphics Pack onto this card so I could tuck some of the die cut flowers underneath.  The Modern Graphics Pack is something I’ve wished for, for a long, loooong time! When I thought about what I would want in a patterned paper, several things came to mind:

I reach reach/hunt for black and white patterned papers all.the.time. I can never get enough. They just compliment soooooo many of my projects!

I wanted them to be hand-drawn, somewhat modern and abstract, as well as non-gender and non-occasion specific–generic enough to be used for nearly anything, but with enough versatility that they could be “interpreted” in different ways.  For example:

  • The tiny confetti pattern could represent not just confetti, but also  falling snow, a starry sky, or tiny bubbles floating up.
  • The skinny strands could be balloon strings or woodgrain, and possibly ocean waves.
  • The scattered dots are perfect for when you just need a subtle random pattern to fill white space and create extra interest.
  • The abstract spots could be an animal print
  • The little rectangles could be windows in a skyscraper, sound bar lights on a stereo and even tho it isn’t, it reminds me of a print-out of binary code.

So, what can you do with these papers?  You can spritz them with color sprays, sponge dye or pigment inks over the top, you can stamp right onto them, and…

wait for it…

foil them using heat transfer foils and a laminator/MINC machine.

Oh, yes you can!
