Cotton Candy Balloons…

I’ve never tried “no-line” watercoloring before, so I decided to give it a whirl.  I painted wet on dry this time around, but next time I think I’ll try wet on wet to see how I like that.

I love how soft it makes the images, and maintains that whole idea of translucence… The whole time I was painting, I was thinking the colors were so “sweet” and “yummy” and reminded me of those fluffy wads of cotton candy, LOL!

Cursive greetings in the Wish Big set make awesome balloon strings… :)

Had to add a few sequins just for a bit of sparkle when I was finished.

  • Stamp with a very pale, neutral colored ink like Antique Linen Distress
  • Use the image lines as a guide; if you paint over them, this ink is water-reactive, so the lines could “wash away”; that’s not a bad thing, just something to be aware of
  • Don’t worry about “perfection”; keep it loose
  • Start light, add more if needed–I like having a palette or non-stick craft sheet handy to dilute colors down as I work
  • Clean off your brush in between colors
  • Allow areas that overlap to dry or heat set them with your embossing gun, before applying the next color,  so you don’t end up with mud.  Unless you want mud. And in that case, disregard that last suggestion.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget to leave a comment to enter the giveaway for my Bold Blooms Stamp (ended)!

Essentials by Ellen Winter 2015 Release Hop

Hello,  and thanks for stopping here for the Winter 2015 Essentials by Ellen Release Hop! I’ll be showcasing one of the new die and stamp sets on my post today!

And, YESSSSS!!! *fist pump* I’m giving away a Bold Blooms Stamp Set!  That’s right! It’s gonna go live in a lucky someone’s house!  Please leave a comment by March 2nd  on my post to enter this giveaway!

There is also a Grand Giveaway in the CLASSroom–of the whole, entire release!!!  To enter, be sure to leave a comment there, and at every stop along the hop by March 2nd; winners will be announced March 4th!

To create this card:

  1. Watercolor puddles of color onto a quarter sheet of watercolor paper, heat setting between each color to avoid muddying
  2. Allow to dry completely, and trim to desired size (if necessary, iron to flatten by sandwiching between clean scrap paper; NO STEAM!)
  3. Die cut Bold Blossoms from heavy white card stock and mount as shown to watercolored panel
  4. White emboss sentiment onto piece of vellum card stock; staple to watercolored panel, atop the die cuts
  5. Mat previous layers with patterned paper; mount completed panel to an A-2 (4.25 x 5.5″) card made from white woodgrain card stock
  6. Embellish with enamel dots

I’m a bit over the moon with this release–put a lot of my favorites into it…

I also feel kinda dumb… I was so busy working behind the scenes on sooooo many other things relating to the release, I totally froggot (that is a made up word) to INCLUDE myself in the hop. *smacks forehead* So, thanks for hanging in there and seeing it aaaaaallll the way thru to me! :)

Have you enjoyed the hop? I just love how different everybody’s take has been… and I feel pretty doggone lucky to have these talented peeps sharing their mad skillzzz with this release…  *verklempt*

Just for the halibut…

Sometimes, the little voices in your head start yakkin’, and you gotta’ give in… ;)  Here’s a peek at some card designs I made and hope to shoot with the “good” camera, soon…

These happened to be made with a few sets from my stamp designs + a few stamps made by some industry friends and colored with the following Peerless watercolors / Kuretake Gansai Watercolors, colored pencils, or Copics:

Shoes from the Twelve Days Set + Milo’s ABC’s, by Lawn Fawn.  I know, right?! It’s not holiday! ;)

‘Tis The Season

Twelve Days + Sketchy Letters by Mama Elephant

Tis the Season–I like seeing how different an image can look when you change the technique a little … :)

Twelve Days Set + Milo’s ABC’s, by Lawn Fawn again…

And again… Twelve Days Set + Milo’s ABC’s, by Lawn Fawn What can I say? They just go together so well!!! Kinda of a match made in heaven, methinks!  I actually did this design for the October In Touch Newsletter–a spin-off from a countdown project.

I’m up to the gills at the moment, working on a few projects, but just thought I’d sneak some eye candy in. Just cuz it’s Friday. :)

Have a fab weekend!

P.S.  You can see the stamps and dies I’ve designed right HERE.
