Yes, I’m still kickin’…

Jan 04, 11 15 29 AM

I’ve been “absent”.  Reason: I literally *just* moved back to my home on Whidbey Island that we have been remodeling since last June.  We have been painting the *entire* interior ourselves.  Still not done.  It is a long, tedious process when you’re not a professional house painter, lemme tell ya’… The remodel itself is still not quite finished; contractor tools and equipment everywhere.  Stuff still in boxes.  Everywhere. Some appliances not yet installed (still no refrigerator and even more importantly, still no heat pump!!!).  There are portable heaters… Everywhere.

Our home was built back in the early 70′s and is a modest 1,800 sq. ft.  No garage–previous owners had converted it to a family room.  It’s your typical 3 bdr 2 bath single-story house–and had the original countertops and old, musty cabinetry and coil burners cooktop…  We agonized a long time over what to do with this loooooong-overdue for an update house… that has wiring issues (two people can’t blow dry their hair at the same time, or you trip the circuit)…  and plumbing issues… ugh, yeah… The urge to sell it and buy new construction was very, very strong…

But, when your house is actually in a (quaint/charming) small town, within walking distance to said charming, waterfront downtown, on a dead-end cul-de-sac, and feels somewhat private, with a living room view of Penn Cove (over the top of the “estate” directly below you) and mature fruit trees (apples, pears, plums–yeah, it’s kind of a mini orchard!), you envision it being your forever home… where you retire, and enjoy the scenic beauty, go fishing, admire the deer that visit daily and have your grandkiddos runnin’ through the sprinkler in the back yard on a warm summer day…

So, we saved and saved and saved. And gathered up our dreams and our courage. And, last Spring we hired a contractor… and gutted the house…

Brace y’selves; it’s about to get sappy.  But in a goodly way. :)

Ellen and I have been chums for a long time, first “meeting” on Splitcoaststampers.com where we were delighted to discover we lived in the same state, and within a few hours’ travel time! One day, Ellen invited me to her home for lunch plus an afternoon of stamping and cardmaking.  I will never forget that day–it was a blast and she endeared herself to me instantly because of her friendly, open demeanor, her warm, happy spirit and boundless enthusiasm!

When she launched Ellen Hutson LLC, I was excited for her and very much in awe and admiration–it takes a lot of courage to turn a dream into a reality.  And, yes, hard work.  LOTS of hard work.

As her company has grown and blossomed, my respect and admiration has only deepened–because I know the heart of the woman behind the company; her desire and commitment to help other individuals that work with her, alongside her, within this industry, to achieve and succeed is unparalleled.  I’m thankful for the faith she has put in me, and all her encouragement…  I thank my lucky stars daily that I get to call her colleague AND dearly loved friend.

I’m so gosh darn proud of her, I could bust!

Congratulations, Ellen and the Ellen Hutson LLC Team, on rockin’ the last 10 years!

caring hearts

Today we are celebrating the 7th annual Caring Hearts Card Drive with a fun blog hop! The purpose of this card drive is to collect handmade holiday cards for the elderly that live in nursing homes around the world. Since 2010 this event has been bringing joy to many nursing homes throughout the US, Canada and Australia. And this year, they are branching out to the UK! What better way to share our love of card making than to bring joy to others, right? We hope you’ll join us in supporting the card drive. Details for the card drive can be found at: Vera Yates Blog & Jennifer McGuire’s Blog.

Gift Card_638-01 No hop is complete without a fun giveaway, right? Simon Says Stamp is generously offering a $150 gift card for this hop. All you need to do is visit and leave a comment on each blog. The winner will be randomly selected from one of the participants’  blog. You have until midnight Thurday, 11/17/2016 to leave comment. Winner will be announced on Vera’s blog on Friday, 11/18/2016.

Here are some holiday card inspirations I’m sharing today for this very worthy and very awesome cause! :)

Let’s spread it, people!

I kinda got on a roll with different ways of using the Holiday Words Die Set . . .

Joy peace love 01

Used the Stitch Cover Plate with watercolor paper, and then cut the words out and 3D mounted them to my card front.

Joy peace love 02

Pressure embossed the Stitch Cover Plate into watercolor paper using the Silicone Rubber Sheet and then glued the words, die cut from glitter paper right over top. I love how using watercolor paper for embossing the cover plate makes it look like a cable knit sweater! *fist pump*

Joy peace love 03

Layered a negative die cut of the words over some Oh Joy patterned paper by PinkFresh Studio and then clipped a piece of starry gold foiled acetate (same Oh Joy collection) over the top, and Bob’s yer Uncle! ;)

Card making for one of the bestest causes? Hope you join in and spread the joy, peace & love!  Thanks so much for stopping by my place today!

Enjoy the hop!
