A Simple Window Card + a Giveaway: INK!!!

ae_inks_WEB_2

Avery Elle is a relatively newer stamp company that produces some of the most adorable clear stamp sets out there and they kindly sent me a set of their new fast-drying pigment inks to try out. Like most long-time stampers, I have an ink addiction and my love of pigment inks goes waaaaay back–as in two decades plus. Oy! I’m OLD! Yikes!!! *wink*

I first saw the inks at CHA and was tickled to see such a great collection of 15 colors!  Reinkers are also available for them in a full set or individually, just like the ink pads.

As I was playing with them, most of the colors dried and absorbed so fast on porous card stock surfaces that I didn’t try to heat emboss them and just left them nekked.

The Pure White ink pad was an exception to this–my particular ink pad was very ”juicy”–I may actually blot the surface with some paper towel.  Anyway, it features a chalk-like finish that intensifies on dark and kraft paper as it dries. I sped up the process with a heat gun; I noticed when I swiped my finger across it, it did blend out, much like real chalk would but it’s also possible I didn’t get all of it completely dry.

In most cases, your average pastel hued pigment ink barely shows up, if at all, against black card stock, but I would guess that there is some type of chalk in the formulation of these paler colors that helps them keep their opacity because when I stamped them onto black card stock, they showed up quite well and that could lead to some really fun effects!

The above chart is a pretty close approximation of how the colors appear in real life–at least, when I compared my computer monitor to my chart; it’s hard to get a perfectly accurate rendition with the camera, but I know it helps to see the colors stamped, as opposed to computer generated colors.

I tested a few of the colors on vellum and found that if I heat set them, they didn’t require embossing to “seal” them to the vellum (unlike most standard pigment inks).  I also discovered that when stamping them onto vellum, because it is less porous than card stock, the inks were slower to dry and did stay wet on the surface long enough to heat emboss. It would be interesting to see how they behave on glossy card stocks and I’ll have to experiment with that some time, too!

One of the benefits of pigment inks is that they are deeply saturated with color and, as a thicker type ink, they work equally well on both ruby red rubber as well as clear stamps. They also yield crisp, opaque impressions, without any feathering. In all, these Avery Elle fast-drying pigment inks come in a fun array of blendable colors and a unique finish. Hey, Mikey! I likey!

I also did a short video to accompany this post–be sure to switch to 720p for best viewing quality. :)

If you’d like a chance at winning a complete set of these inks, please leave a comment on this post by 11:59 pm, Wednesday, February 12th, and I will draw one lucky name!

And, may the odds be ever in your favour! :)

Kissed Clouds

I love non-occasion specific cards–a card to cheer a friend up or let them know you’re there for them is one of the best reasons I know of for sending a card and this one was inspired by some poster art I had seen.

The patterned clouds were created by pressing the solid clouds against one of my all-time favorite background stamps by Hero Arts and then stamped–I adore the effect! Makes the wheels spin when you look at all the solid stamps that you could apply this to! *fist pump*

Have a fab weekend!
